As an addition to an existing regional shopping center south of downtown Tucson, this new project will more than double
the commercial area available on the site for a combined total of over 910,000 square feet. The second phase is anchored
by an 18 screen cineplex theater, a large-scale retailer, and a number of nationally-recognized stores. The architecture,
although contemporary in style, retains a southwestern charm typical of Tucson and its history.

Our goal with the Ak-Chin mixed use center is to try to capture the enigmatic and timeless qualities of the desert and nurture an indigenous sense of design until it becomes the dominant character of the structure and landscape.
The buildings will emerge from the earth with organic materials. Masonry construction with a play of light, dark and course, light and smooth as they rise.
As the building nears the sky, a geometric relief signifying a sense of origin and place will be found. Other relief elements will depict the sky or wind, natural forces in an abstract form and composition. Major roof components will echo the mountain forms. The arch, horizontal planes, triangular shapes, and the drum/cylinders used as a focal point at the corner.
Floating steel canopies as well as sloping metal roofs will be used providing shaded pedestrian walkways and a sense of entry. Entry drives will be dipped and pads elevated to further enhance the sense of arrival.
